    the shield has profuse but intricate incised designs to face.

  • Notes:
    The shield was part of the collection of Elsie and Jim Rushton who live(d) in Mandurah south of Perth, Western Australia. The shield was collected by Jim while he was working on the construction of homes for Aborigines. This shield was collected by Jim while he was working at Hooker Creek (now known as Lagamanu) in the Northern Territory in the 1950's. He was given the shield by local Aborigines as a gift. The Professor Gordon H Packham Collection of Aboriginal Art. Gordon Packham, University of Sydney, made a substantial contribution to our knowledge and understanding of the geology of New South Wales. He assembled this collection over more than sixty years and it is reflective of the deep connection he had with Australia's natural landscape as a geologist.
