  • Lot Description:
MOTORBACK SULKY BY DOUGLAS & PATTERSON, WAGGA
A well-made motor back sulky of about 1920, this example carries makers plates for Douglas & Patterson of Fitzmaurice Street, Wagga who operated between about 1890 and 1930. The vehicle has an original motor back seat on brass mounted seat risers, with a short tray, curved dash, lamp irons and iron tyred Sarven hub wheels. Restoration of the very original vehicle was undertaken by enthusiasts in Yass and unfortunately through inexperience the shafts were spliced in front of the seat instead of being replaced. The seat, tray and wheels appear to be in very good condition, but the sulky must not be used with a horse until the shafts have been properly replaced as they will certainly break off. Excellent replacement shafts are available at a modest cost on request, and with the requisite attention this will be a fine and comfortable light pleasure vehicle.
