Notes:In this painting Kathleen shows us an aerial view of her father's country, which is near Mosquito Bore on Utopia Station. Utopia Station is approximately 250 km from Alice Springs in the eastern side of the Central Australian desert. It is here the eastern Anmatyerre people gather to conduct their secret & sacred ceremonies. The small dots throughout the painting represent seeds for the Aboriginal people. The seeds are used to make bush medicine. The older women take the young girls to different places around Utopia to collect seeds from special plants. Back at the campsite the women dry the seeds & boil them to extract resin. Kangaroo or emu fat is mixed into the resin, creating a paste that can be stored for a long time in bush conditions. This medicine is used to heal cuts, wounds, bites, rashes & acts as an insect repellant.
