• Notes:
  Arthur Murch would often visit the beach and observe the figures of women, children and men and make studies. This drawing shows a typical pose that he favoured. Deborah Edwards, art curator, writes: "by placing his nudes and/or mothers on beaches, Murch effectively ties them to the Australian natural world. The paintings in fact imply that these women are attuned to the cycles of nature. They are half-nymphs, completely divorced from the dynamic forces of history." Michelle Murch
