  • Notes:
Enzo Ferrari was born in Modena on the 18th February 1898 and lived until August 14th 1988. He devoted his life to constructing the most consummate sports and racing cars in history and garnering over 5,000 victories on the greatest race tracks of the world. 'Think as a winner and act as a winner. You'll be quite likely to achieve your goal,' said the man who had experienced tragedy, poverty and struggle in his youth during the First World War. Soon after the war he was appointed an official driver in 1920 for Alfa Romeo and within 9 years this extraordinary individual had founded The Scuderia Ferrari which mainly supported gentlemen drivers with their racing cars. By 1938, Enzo Ferrari became head of Alfa Corse and by 1939 he had established his own company, Auto Avio Construzioni. And so, Enzo's company went on to build the extraordinary 1500cm3 8-cylinder 815 Spyder, 2 of which were built for the Mille Miglia. With the outbreak of WW2, Auto Avio Construzione relocated to Maranello in 1943 and this remains the seat of Ferrari to this day. By 1947, Ferrari had developed the 1500cm3 12-cylinder 125S making its competition debut at the Piacenza Circuit on 11th May, 1947 with Franco Cortese at the wheel. Later that month, this legend in the making won again in Rome at the capitol's Terme di Caracalla Circuit embarking on a romance with speed and a race for distinction that is seemingly endless. Ferrari has designed cars in collaboration with Pininfarina, Zagato and Bertone and all three have been recognised in design halls of fame. Of the many variants in engine sizes and configurations of front, mid and rear engine cars, the V8 Ferrari makes up well over half of the marque's total production. The 328GTB on offer is one of this type. Launched at the Frankfort Motor Show in1985, the Ferrari 328GTB (Type F106) styled by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina was the successor to the Ferrari 308GTB and GTS. The Ferrari 328 uses a 3.2-litre V8, 4-valve-per-cylinder layout. It has (factory) 270 hp and 231 lb ft of torque with a top speed of 166 mph (267 km/h) reaching 60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.5 seconds and 100 mph (160 km/h) in 13.0 seconds. The Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system of the 308 was retained, but a Marelli MED 806 A electronic ignition system was introduced to optimise engine output. It has an all synchromesh five-speed manual transmission mounted below and to the rear of the engine's wet sump. The 328 has independent front and rear suspension, double wishbones with coil springs, telescopic dampers, anti-roll bars and rack and pinion steering. The 328 was produced for four years in the chassis number-range of 59301 to 83136. GTS Targa production outnumbered the GTB Berlinetta by almost five to one, making this factory right hand drive GTB particularly rare. Production numbers for these naturally aspirated models are as follows: Ferrari 328GTS: 6068; Ferrari 328GTB: 1344 bringing the total constructed to 7412 with a mere 130 built for the UK market and significantly less for the remaining RHD nations. How many of these right hand drive 328GTBs are still in existence is not known but the 328GTB was not officially distributed in Australia. This rare and desirable factory right hand drive Ferrari was delivered new to Hong Kong on 30th August 1988 to Mr. Mak Wai Kuen, of Kowloon, by Ferrari concessionaire, Maranello Concess. Orient. Ltd for and on behalf of Italian Motors (Sales and Service) Ltd. Its vehicle registration certificate states it as a GTB 328 with the engine and chassis number as stated. Service receipts are available dating from 1988 through to 1999. The import approval letter states that this was granted to the vendor on 15th November 2004. With an odometer reading of 29,037kms this car has barely been driven since its arrival in Australia. Since importation this 328 has gone through a full re-commissioning, including a full service, replacement of timing belts and belt tensioners. (Receipt available) and new Pirelli Tyres, carried out by Sports and Classic Car Service, Melbourne. It has been repainted in Rosso Corso with the interior re-upholstered in matching beige quality leather. It has its original tool kits and reprinted service books ratified with service stamps in accordance with the service history for the car from Italian Motors (Sales and Service) Ltd. Receipts available on request. This car has factory air-conditioning and is the non-ABS version. This Ferrari 328GTB is a rare car in Australia and one of so few in the world that we feel quite fortunate and excited to have the opportunity to offer it for auction. This vehicle will be sold unregistered.
