    1856 No 1 “Adelaide” Tank Engine
    modelled in its 1869 converted-to-tender-engine format (190x38x56mm), being one of the three engines ordered from William Fairbairn (Manchester, England), yellow-green & red livery and gold plated trim, 2-4-0 wheel configuration.
  • Notes:
    [“No 1” was the first locomotive to enter Adelaide Station and was initially employed on the Adelaide to Port Adelaide Line, and later used on the Adelaide to Kapunda Line. After the locomotive was scrapped in 1871 its coupling wheels (plus those from No 2) were used as bogies on a well wagon built by the Adelaide Locomotive Works known as “The Crocodile”.]
