Lot Description:c.1890 Y Class (Y383) Steam Locomotive
(200x35x50mm), green livery and gold trim, 0-6-0 wheel configuration, with Type AV & AB passenger carriages, total size 695x35x50mm. (4 items) -
Notes:[The first R Class locomotive was built by Kitson & Co (Leeds, England) and was exhibited at the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition held in 1888. A further 30 examples were built at the Phoenix Foundry in 1888-89, and allocated (odd) road numbers between 383 (this example) and 441. They were the most powerful 0-6-0s to run in Australia, excelling in performance and popular with crews. Withdrawal commenced in 1926 with the last in regular service decommissioned in the 1950s.]
