Lot Description:c.early 1880s B Class (B50) Steam Locomotive
(190x35x50mm) built by Beyer, Peacock & Co in England, green livery with gold plated trim, 2-4-0 wheel configuration, with rolling stock comprising three passenger carriages and a ‘YZ’ Guard Van, total size 640x35x50mm. (6 items) -
Notes:[B Class locomotives were a lighter weight engine ordered to operate on the more cheaply constructed railway lines which followed the expensively constructed lines built to connect Melbourne to the gold rush towns of Ballarat & Bendigo. The William Meikle designed B Class “Buzzwinker” engines built at the Phoenix Foundry tended to damage the lightly-laid track whereas the two B Class engines ordered in 1873 from Beyer Peacock did not have the same detrimental impact.]
