  • Notes:
[B Class locomotives were a lighter weight engine ordered to operate on the more cheaply constructed railway lines which followed the expensively constructed lines built to connect Melbourne to the gold rush towns of Ballarat & Bendigo. The William Meikle designed B Class “Buzzwinker” engines built at the Phoenix Foundry tended to damage the lightly-laid track whereas the two B Class engines ordered in 1873 from Beyer Peacock did not have the same detrimental impact.]
