    A leaf from an artist’s sketchbook, unsigned; verso of leaf with an unfinished sketch of early settlers and huts in the bush.

    Affixed to the back of the mounting is a typed statement: “This is to certify that this Drawing was handed down to me from the Estate of my Great Grandfather - Lt. Charles Forrest, and is a work by his hand. Signed C.S. Sinclair.
  • Notes:
    Born in Cawnpore, India, Forrest was an important early settler on the Prahran-Toorak district of Melbourne. He acquired land in the area as early as 1840, and briefly served as clerk to the Protector of Aborigines in Port Phillip
