    Seven Old Maireener Shell Necklaces, Tasmanian, Late 19th-early 20th Century [7]
    being either double or triple strands when worn around the neck, these beautiful strand necklaces are in very good condition, as the soft green, yellow, white & purple shells are iridescent Tasmanian Maireener Shells or Rainbow Kelp Shells, found in the Bass Strait, they are threaded on a continuous double strand of twisted cotton with no clasp, shell necklaces have been woven by Tasmanian Aboriginal women for centuries
