Lot Description:A BRADMAN CORRESPONDENCE, 1987-1993
A series of seven letters to the present vendor, explaining his willingness to sign items sent to him, “....strangely enough I still get an enormous mail and quite often it takes me 3 to 4 hours a day to deal with it....” [letter of 25-7-89] and thanking his correspondent for his various gifts “and the Tatts ticket” as expressions of gratitude. “I’ve never won anything yet and don’t expect my luck to change but I do very much appreciate the thought.” [letter of 24-7-87]. In a later letter, Bradman expresses quite strong opposition to his correspondent using a “cartoon in your book” in which he is shown with a moustache. “...I only grew one temporarily because of a badly sunburnt upper lip and I think it would be out of place for you to use one such in your book.” [letter of 8.9.89]. Ever thorough, Bradman goes to the trouble of sending a “fairly recent photo” to assist the artist in creating a non-moustachioed caricature. The letters are framed & glazed; overall 50 x 75cm. -
