Lot Description:Large original photograph with manuscript details below "MELBOURNE CUP 1914 - Turning out of "Straight" - Sears Photo
Attractively presented in the original old frame; glazed, overall 60 x 105cm. -
Notes:The race was won by Kingsburgh in a new record time of 3 minutes, 26 seconds. Kingsburgh was owned by the well known L.K.S. Mackinnon, who apparently won more than £14,000 in bets as well as the £9,890 prize money. In 1936, the Melbourne Stakes was renamed the MacKinnon Stakes after Kingsburgh's owner, who was also on the VRC Committee and later became Chairman of the club.
