    commanded by Captain James Wilson, compiled from journals of the officers and the missionaries; and illustrated with maps, charts and views, drawn by Mr. William Wilson, and engraved by the most eminent artists. With a preliminary discourse on the geography and history of the South Sea islands; and an appendix, including details never before published, of the natural and civil state of Otaheite; by a committee appointed for the purpose by the directors of the Missionary Society. [London: T. Chapman, 1799.] Quarto, half-calf over marbled boards (hinges weak; upper board detached); bookplates to endpapers; 13 engraved prints and maps (some folding). Includes List of Subscribers at end. The first missionary voyage to the South Pacific.  Captain James Wilson (1760–1814), commanded the British ship Duff, which the London Missionary Society contracted in 1797 to convey a team of missionaries (consisting of 30 men, 6 women, and 3 children) to their postings in Tahiti, Tonga, and the Marques
