    black horn handle with folding white horn comb, some warping and loss to one tooth of comb; with vendor's descriptive tag and research material on Crowninshield including a biography and copies of his army files (a lot)

    Note: for buyers intending to export this lot outside of Australia, CITES regulations apply. Contact department for details. Crowninshield joined 2nd Mass. Regt. as a 2nd Lt. on 25 December, 1861, aged 22 years. In his first battle at Winchester, VA. on 25 May, 1862 he was wounded in the leg. During his service he was wounded another three times and fought at Chancellersville VA. and the Battle of Gettysburg, PA. Crowninshield was promoted to 1st Lt. in August, 1862 and Capt. on 31 March, 1863. He was mustered out of service on 14 July, 1865 and died from disease on 21 May, 1865, probably as a result of the wounds that he received. He was 26 years old.
