Notes:W.M.F. is short for Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik. Founded in 1880 by the merger of two German companies. The firm became famous for its art nouveau metal wares. Their in-house design studio was directed from 1894 by the sculptor and designer Albert Mayer. The style was similar to the French art nouveau style with sinuous curves, maidens in robes, nymphs and motifs from nature. In Germany, this design style became known as “Jugendstil”. The decorative pieces of WMF today are keenly collected worldwide.
