Notes:Alan McCulloch described Vike as “ ------- a van Gogh in an Australian climate.” (Vike catalogue, Art Gallery of Western Australia, 1990, page 9). By the time he jumped ship at Point Cloates Whaling Station North Western Australia in 1927, he had travelled the world working on ships. After a visit back to his native Norway, he settled in Western Australia in 1929 and became a full time artist. A full and interesting account of his life is available from the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Vike Exhibition catalogue, 1990, by Julian Goddard.
