  A Superbly Carved Maori Figure of a Warrior
  This powerful figure of a warrior in a fighting stance once had a club in its right hand (now missing) finely carved from a single piece of hardwood (except for the base which also is decorated with incised designs). The face with full moko tattooing & pearl shell eyes , the entire body except for below the knees is deeply incised with traditional Maori designs. The back of the figure only has designs on the waist, buttock and thighs. New Zealand .

  Ex Hafton Collection USA. The family bought this figure on trip to NZ in the early 1970's where it stood at the front door for over 40 years; Australian Private Collection.
