A collection of parliamentary reports, folio, folding maps some hand coloured; some staining on several pages but overall in good condition in contemporary half calf. [Adelaide, Government Printer, 1858]

  From the collection of Sir Henry Ayers [1821-1897], Premier of South Australia, with his bookplate on the inside front cover.
• Notes:
  This large collection of parliamentary papers include the two scarce reports relating to Babbage’s proposals for an expedition to the northern interior. These papers (South Australia Parliamentary Papers No.25 and 25* of 1858) give detailed accounts of the preparations for the expedition. Many other subjects are covered in the accompanying papers: Immigration, Defence, Railways, Tramways, the Postal Service, etc. [For paintings by Benjamin Babbage’s son, Herbert Ivan Babbage, see Lots 801 & 806]
