  From the Morven Estate Curatorial Services records: This painting was commissioned by Geoffrey Bardon with the artist at Napperby Station in 1980. Bardon prepared two major canvases at this time, this one [and the other] for the story of Napperby Death Spirit, which was acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria in 1981. Tim Leura Tjapaltjarri was the custodian of this story and, as is the custom, the older brother (Tim Leura) would have directed the young Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri with the work. Clearly, however, Tim Leura’s influence remains most prominent in the work. This story relates to the body designs employed in the sacred and secret circumcision ceremonies. The large loops represent body designs and reflect the brother’s journey through the sandhill country. The ritual of collected bush tucker is an integral part of this ceremony, and this work relates to love stories between the correct skin which is instructed to young initiates. The roundels represent camps at several sights on the initiation grounds, and the vertical lines through the roundels represent Clifford Possum’s body pain designs.
