  old label verso with entitlement and additionally: "One of the painters of the Dutch School of (?) landscape painters. Painted small figures for some of the great Dutch landscape painters. Bought privately from a lady in Brighton, England, had never been out of the Family".
• Provenance:
  Alexander R. D. Watson 1878 - 1917 (Auckland resident and benefactor [Watson Memorial, Devonport, Watson Bequest Statue Group, the Domain]); by descent to his grandson; sold Cordy's November 1995
• Notes:
  In 1985 the work was deposited at the Auckland City Art Gallery, the receipt written by the late Dr.Rodney Wilson describes the work as attributed to Adriaen van der Velde, possibly by Philips Wouwerman.
