Lot Description:"Von Tempsky's Pipe"
the briar bowl with gilt metal fittings and curved horn mouthpiece mounted to a varnished back board with applied, hand-written vintage plaque "Von Tempsky's Pipe. This pipe was found among the possessions of Major Von Tempksy after his heroic death at Ngutu-O-Te-Manu in 1868. Afterwards his widow presented it to Captain Keddell. "He bequeathed it to his friend, Mr John Harvey of Parnell." Mr John Harvey being a friend of the vendor's father who had this pipe in his possession for many years. Together with a newspaper cutting detailing "The Von Tempsky Fund". -
