  • Notes:
With the advent of new turbocharging technology, in 1975, Porsche launched a particularly powerful version of its legendary 911 model, the familiar shape of which had first been seen in 1965. Initially named internally as the 930, the 911 Turbo was the top of the range model in the Porsche 911 line up. The 930 featured flared rear wings, which gave it an extra 12 cm in width. Black stone guard film was applied in front of the rear wheel arches. The rear lid featured a distinctive rear wing with a wide black hard-rubber border. In 1978 the glass-fibre reinforced plastic rear lid was replaced by a lid made from sheet steel and the fixed plastic rear wing for mounting the charge-air cooler was made much bigger. The Turbo was also given an exhaust system with twin tailpipe, however, the exhaust gases only escaped through the left pipe when the boost-pressure control valve of the turbocharger was open. From 1987, the Turbo model was also available in the Targa and Cabriolet body types whilst in 1989, the 4-speed manual transmission was replaced with a 5-speed version. From 1975 to 1977 the 911 Turbo featured a 3.0 litre 260 hp air-cooled engine before it was replaced in 1978 with a 3.3 litre, air-cooled engine capable of producing 300 hp. Production of the 930 ceased in 1989. The 911 Turbo of the 1980s could be distinguished by the bumpers with black bellows; electrically adjustable exterior mirrors in the same colour as the car exterior colour; anodised black window frames; anodised black door handles; headlamp rings in same colour as car exterior colour; a tail-light panel with black Porsche logo; flared wheel arches with black stone guard films at the rear; rear lid with fixed high rear spoiler with raised black PU border; black PU front spoiler. This 1983 example of the quintessential Porsche 911 Turbo is finished in the original Grand Prix White colour scheme (repainted in 2010) with its original biscuit leather interior. This highly authentic factory right hand drive 930 presents very well, and we are told, drives as it should, having benefitted from exceptional care and maintenance over the years by its only three owners, and having a fully documented engine rebuild at 140,000 kms. Originally delivered to South Africa, this Porsche was purchased by its current owner in 2008, and came second in its class at the 2010 Porsche National Concours, before being imported to Australia. This unmolested 930 Turbo in excellent condition recently had a clutch/pressure plate replacement, and is fitted with brand new Pirelli tyres, whilst the front carpets have also just been replaced. Fully complied in Australia it is accompanied by a series of past invoices and images documenting its history, and most importantly a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
