  • Provenance:
    Alfred Edward Lawrence, collected South Goulburn Island Methodist Mission 1916; thence by decent ; Private Collection, Tasmania
  • Notes:
    Alfred Edward Lawrence and his wife Ruby May Strong arrived on South Goulburn Island in 1916 as agents of the Methodist Missionary Society of Australasia. Alf and Ruby worked at the Mission for about a year, leaving after Alf contracted malaria and became too ill to stay. The basket was collected at that time and has remained in the family since.
