    An Aboriginal Sword Club
    The carving reflects more of a western desert type influence on Pilbara designs and is on mulga wood. On the coast these clubs were used to stun schooling fish in the shallows. This stronger version was also used for fighting or flogging people. Coloured with red ochre. Face: motifs are deep carved grooves in a geometric pattern overincised with fine grooving. Separated into two distinct panels. Back: smooth. Handle: smooth, spinifex gum. Circa early 1900s Pilbara coast, La Grange to Strelly region, Western Australia
