    1965 TRIUMPH HERALD SALOON 13/60
Chassis no: 3GE 17164DC; Engine no: GE 20514F
  • Notes:
The body design of the Triumph Herald is the brilliant conception of the Italian stylist Giovanni Michelotti, who was one of the most prolific sports car designers of the 20th century and made an extraordinary contribution to the style car enthusiasts have come to revere. Michelotti designed special bodies for the Ferrari, Lancia, Maserati and Triumph marques. He was also associated British Leyland after its takeover of BMC. With the skills of this amazing designer, it is no wonder that the Triumph Herald has a distinctive continental look that has onlookers exclaiming cute, fashionable and sporty. This small two-door car introduced by the Standard-Triumph Company of Coventry in 1959, was produced until 1971 and so appropriate for the swinging sixties that a full complement of body styles was produced including saloon, convertible, coupé, estate and panel-van models. The Herald 13/60 is powered by a 4 cylinder ohv 1296 cc engine with a 4-speed manual gearbox, essentially the same unit employed in the Triumph 1300 and fitted with a Stromberg CD150 carburettor, offering 61 bhp. This classic British car's movie star quality has seen it make cameo appearances in the Heartbeat television series driven by leading characters Nick and Kate Rowan. A Triumph Herald was also used at the 2012 London Olympic Games during the Closing Ceremony. A 1962 model Herald was used by James May on the TV car show Top Gear as a template for an amphibious car. This car became a fixture in the Top Gear studio. An endearing member of the Savage Collection, this Triumph Herald 13/60 saloon car has an odometer reading 44,500 miles approx. It presents in original condition in its white livery with blue vinyl trim and matching blue carpets with original Smiths gauges and timber dashboard. It is accompanied by a tool kit and jack. The provenance of this car is being sought at the time of print. A 1960's small English classic such as this is a most desirable acquisition and this car is one of three Triumphs represented in the sale. This vehicle will be sold licenced with WoF
