  Firmly establishing its position as a collectors' car, the E24 series BMW designed by Paul Bracq and Manfred Rennen, this model evolved from the exciting 1960s which saw the manufacturer save itself from imploding by the development of the fabulous New Class cars. Future bound, the E24 came as a replacement for the CS and CSL coupés first produced in 1965. Production of the E24 started in March 1976 with two models: the 630 CS and 633 CSi. Initially, the bodies were manufactured by Karmann, but production was later taken in-house by BMW. In 1982, the 635 CSI's appearance inside and out changed slightly but impressively. Simultaneously, its six-cylinder engine was modified with slightly smaller bores and a longer stroke, 3430 cc's replacing 3453 cc. It also became available with wider-ratio manual and automatic transmission variants. These seemingly slight changes in 1982 were in fact a major boost as pre-1982 cars were based on the earlier E12 5-series chassis, but after mid-1982, E24 CSI Coupe's shared the improved E28 5-series chassis. BMW's 635CSi is an elegantly styled, high-performance, grand tourer and has become the definitive E24, particularly with its increased power output from the exciting straight 6 3.5-litre overhead camshaft engine. The 635 CSI BMW was noted to achieve 138mph. As the standard for future BMW customers, the 635CSi's luxuriously appointed cockpit and cabin could seat four adults comfortably. Innovations such as the Check Control System, monitoring light bulbs, fluid levels and brake pads, considered standard today, set a new high bar in motoring technology. One of the most exciting racing eras emerged, seeing the BMW factory 635 CSI's and privateers competing in Group A events across Europe and the Tasman, where the likes of Jim Richards steered the unforgettable 'John Player Special' liveried BMWs to victories in the Australian Endurance Championship in 1985/6. In addition, Kent Baigent and Glenn McIntyre won New Zealand Touring Car Championship titles in 1985 and 1987 with these legendary touring cars. Records for this extremely appealing example held in the Savage Collection since 2000 reveal the first owner as Mr. Fiedier of Hertfordshire, UK who acquired the vehicle new on 28 March, 1983 as declared on the Vehicle Registration Document in Great Britain by the manufacturer/sole import concessionaire, which also shows the first transfer of ownership on 17th July 1987 to Paul Andre Kinsman. Kinsman brought the car to New Zealand and registered it on 11th January 1988 with an odometer reading of 49,000 kms. It was then traded to Mrs. Angela Keats in 1989 with 58,000 on the clock and to David Scott in 1989 with 58,941kms accrued. It was purchased by Roy Savage on 18th September, 2000 with no mileage recorded, notwithstanding vehicle inspection certificates throughout Scott's ownership recording its mileage up to 93,000 approx. This beautifully maintained car now has a 102,000 approx. odometer reading and comes with a complete original factory tool kit fitted elegantly within the boot lid and has a 4 speed automatic transmission which compliments this 3430cc sports coupe. It is fitted with an after-market Momo steering wheel, after market light alloy wheel rims with M badges. It is also accompanied by its original wheels and service manuals. Finished in Hennarot paintwork with factory Perlbeige leather trim, this car is the only BMW in the Savage Collection and was carefully chosen for its provenance and splendid condition. The VIN for this car indicates clearly it was built between 04/82 and 04/89 and one of approx. 3,767 RHDs cars manufactured. According to Theory BMW E24, a mere 84 635CSi right hand drive vehicles were built in 1983. Although BMW introduced a new 6 series model in Sept 1983 (which was not produced until the beginning of 1984) this was a model with a big "M", however, research indicates the M badge on this car is after market.
