1964 JAGUAR Mk II 3.4-litre Automatic

  • Notes:
This motor car had only one previous owner before it entered the Savage Collection in September, 1980. It was particularly sought after for its particular merits as a column shift automatic, its single ownership and particularly low mileage being a mere 5802 at the time. There is a most endearing story associated with this Jaguar as the man who bought the car new, Mr. Henry Peters of Lower Hutt, was married to a colleague of Roy's mother in the antique collectors' world. Mrs. Savage was also an avid collector. Roy used to visit Mrs. Peters' antique shop as a small boy with his mother and was told to sit quietly and be still. When her husband died and the 3.4 Mk II was sort after by car collectors, Mrs. Peters remembered the "dear little snowy head boy" as he was such a well-mannered and sweet child. And so, although she was struggling to part with the Jaguar and being approached by many enthusiasts who understandably wanted this one-owner car, she selectively passed it into Roy's deserving hands. Remarkably, this 3.4 Mk II has covered less than 20,000 miles and presents in extremely good condition. According to the Jaguar Trust Heritage Certificate this car is a factory saloon, right hand drive, manufactured on 2nd April, 1964. Its original livery was Silver Grey with Red trim. It was dispatched on 19 April 1964 and delivered to Shorters, Auckland, New Zealand. The first owner was Mr. H. Peters. This car has been repainted in colour matched duco and retains its original red leather interior and steel wheels. With four-wheel disc brakes, and an automatic 3 speed transmission, this motor car represents state-of-the-art touring of the day. In 1961, a 3.4 Mk II automatic was tested by The Motor magazine, achieving a top speed of 119.9 mph (193.0 km/h) and accelerating from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 11.9 seconds. This unique motor car is accompanied by the original Certificate of Registration showing the purchase and single-ownership to Mr. Henry Peters, in 1964 and assignment to his wife, in 1978 and offers an opportunity for a discerning collector to acquire a car that has been held in the Savage collection for 36 years. This vehicle will be sold licenced with WoF
