    AWARD CERTIFICATE, "Victorian Exhibition, London International Exhibition of Works of Industry and Art, 1862"
    a First Class Certificate awarded to Mr.Charles Martin for Gold & Silver Military Embroidery, "Exhibited in Melbourne in 1861", signed by Redmond Barry (the judge who later presided over the final trial of Ned Kelly), as President of the Royal Commission. Window mounted, size overall 48x61cm. Only one other example recorded.

  • Notes:
    This exhibition was, as the name implies, almost exclusively Victorian. It was organised to collect together articles of produce and manufacture so worthy items could be selected for display at the London International Exhibition the following year. In 1873, Charles R. Martin become a partner with Thomas Stokes in the re-named Stokes & Martin Company which manufactured medals, tradesmens tokens, and silverware.
