• Notes:
  This original lithograph by Frances Hodgkins was drawn at the Curwen Studios in April 1938 and is signed by the artist in pencil. Only a few of the impressions were signed and although the planned edition size was around 300, only about half were completed du to the outbreak of World War Two. This lithograph was commissioned in 1937 by John Piper and Robert Wellington for their series 'Contemporary Lithographs'. John Piper wrote to Hodgkins in May of 1938 that he considered this work to be 'the best in the series. It makes most of the others look tame and school-girlish'.
