    Japanese Long Sword (Katana)
    69.5cm blade, good orig. polish with irregular forging grain visible with flaws & openings, core steel evident, irregular temper line with gaps & faults; g. unsigned tang 17.8cm length with gourd-shaped peg hole & square-cut end; leather cover over antique ribbed brown lacquered scabbard with old end fitting visible; old pierced iron guard (poor); rough cond handle with g. antique fittings (handle end fittings are brass with wave design & an armoured samurai standing in a boat about to throw the Jewel of Wisdom into the sea, made ca 1750 & portraying the Taira clan’s defeat at the sea battle of Dan no Ura in 1175). Blade is not high quality, but typical of battle worthy swords produced in the 16th century for the civil wars of the time; o/a good. L/R
