Lot Description:Australian, Colonial Period Casing Of A Colt 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver
36 Cal; 190mm (7½") oct barrel with one line New York address; Colt's patent to lhs of frame; rhs of barrel lug marked F.H., for Francis C. Harding who was an identity of the Castlemaine & Maldon district & originated from the USA. He came to Australia during the gold rush period; 6 shot cylinder retaining faint scene; silver plated brass back strap; brass back strap & t/guard retaining 80% silver plate finish; slight wear to profiles; clear markings; soft grey patina to barrel, lever, cylinder & frame; g. orig one pc wooden grips; gwo & cond. Presented in a contemporary case of the period, partitioned & lined in faded pink velvet; with Colt bullet mould, pewter oil bottle, glass vial of gun oil, J.Dixon bag flask, brass tin with 2 skin cartridges, cuff links, dice & brass buckle ornament. An interesting piece of the gold rush period. C.1852. -
