  Oblong quarto, with engraved title-page and 45 steel-engraved plates, original extensively gilt-decorated morocco-grain blue cloth, neatly rebacked with the spine mounted, all edges gilt, fine and clean. Melbourne & Sydney, Sands & Kenny, 1857 (but December 1856).
• Notes:
  First edition: Following the success of his publication of Frederic Terry’s volume of New South Wales views, John Sands commissioned S.T. Gill to prepare this series of Victorian views which were then sent to England to be engraved on steel. They were published in Melbourne in December 1856. Designed for the Christmas gift market, the volume was issued in several styles of decorated binding. The plates depict scenes in Melbourne, Geelong, the goldfields townships, and elsewhere in the Victorian countryside in Gill’s inimitable style. Ferguson 9924; Wantrup, 260a.
