  • Notes:
    The first general history of New South Wales and Van Diemen’s Land that is not merely a compilation but which uses published sources much as a modern historian would. “The first true history of the colony... O’Hara provides the best picture of the first half of Macquarie’s rule, the Golden Age, that we have between two covers” (Wantrup). This is the “second” (i.e. third) edition: all editions are scarce.
