Lot Description:Laing, Charles. Melbourne.
Ink manuscript map, 628 x 882 mm, with some blocks highlighted with red or with blue, laid down on fine linen, some expected use. [Melbourne, circa 1845-7]. -
Notes:A rare manuscript map that was the source for Laing’s “Plan of North Melbourne…”, which Thomas Ham published as in 1847. While the published map is on a smaller scale, it includes details of East Melbourne and Collingwood not on this map. As with the published map, this manuscript includes names of the original purchasers (and prices), the position of public buildings, and other information. Laing was appointed in 1845 and his map was published in 1847, which gives a very small window for the date of composition.
