Angas, George French. Savage Life and Scenes in Australia and New Zealand
Being an Artist’s Impressions of Countries and People at the Antipodes. Second edition. Two volumes, octavo, twelve plates, illustrations, original cloth, rebacked retaining the original spines, new endpapers. London, Smith, Elder, and Co., 1847.
  • Notes:
Angas’s vivid narrative of his travels through South Australia, New Zealand and New South Wales in 1844-5 that formed the inspiration for his two folios, South Australia Illustrated and The New Zealanders Illustrated. Hocken notes acutely that Savage Life and Scenes “forms descriptive letterpress” to those two magnificent plate books. Ferguson, 4456.
