Lot Description:DON BRADMAN - ANTIQUE TELEPHONE FROM H.W.HODGETTS STOCKBROKING FIRM
Intercom phone with names of stockbroking staff including “Mr.Bradman” & “Mr.Hodgetts”. -
Notes:In February 1934, Harry Hodgetts, a South Australian delegate to the Board of Control, offered Bradman work as a stockbroker if he would relocate to Adelaide and captain South Australia. Unknown to the public, the SA Cricket Association instigated Hodgetts’ approach and subsidised Bradman’s wage. In 1945 Hodgetts & Co went under with debts of more than £120,000. 48 hours later Don Bradman & Co started trading from Hodgetts’ fully-furnished offices.
