Lot Description:DON BRADMAN'S 1936-37 AUSTRALIAN TEST BLAZER, from his first series as Australian captain
green wool with embroidered Australian Coat-of-Arms & '1936-37' on pocket, with Farmer's Sydney label endorsed D.G.Bradman. The blazer illustrates just how small (170cm) and slight (65kg) Bradman was. -
Provenance:Donated by Don Bradman to the Lord's Taverners in 1974, for a charity auction. This is the first time the blazer has been offered by public auction.
-
Notes:Bradman was appointed captain of Australia for the 1936-37 Ashes series, a position he held until his retirement in 1948. Australia lost the first two Tests, with Bradman scoring successive ducks, but his two double centuries and a single century in the last three Tests were part of a remarkable Australian Ashes win. In the Third Test, at Melbourne, his second-innings 270 in 458 minutes was the then longest Test innings played in Australia, and he joined with Jack Fingleton in a Test record sixth-wicket partnership of 346.
