The Bookfellow. Sydney. 1919. together with another copy of the same publication. (2).
  • Notes:
Nielson spent a great deal of his life making roads or working with stone and Mary Gilmore's recalls their first meeting as follows: '...when I saw his work-swollen hands, with the finger-nails worn to the quick by the abrading stone, I felt a stone in my heart.' Gilmore's image of Nielson's work-hardened hands forms a rather poignant contrast to the delicate palette of his verse alluded to in the inscription above.
