• Notes:
  This chapel was built in 1846 to the design by the architect Frederick Thatcher. The site was established in 1843 by Kinder’s friend and supporter Bishop Selwyn, the chapel for a community - including a theological college collegiate school, infant school, Maori teachers’ school, Maori boys’ school and hospital. Kinder was the Master of St. John’s college from 1869 until his resignation in 1880, he is buried in the churchyard of this chapel . This being the oldest surviving church building in Auckland.
