Lot Description:A rare pair of Yoruba
West African ivory ‘Iroke Ifa’ (Divination Tappers), each fashioned from elephant tusks, the main section of tusk reduced to display the unusual and attractive ‘graining’, the proximal end of each finished as a deep collar engraved with a trellis pattern and with encircling carved bands. Length 700 and 760. -
Provenance:Provenance: Bewley Court Lacock Wiltshire; home of Oliver Ford, decorator to the Queen, working at Clarence House, The Dorchester Hotel and Burlington. Ex. the Smithsonian Institute, New York.
