  • Notes:
Alfa Romeo's continuity in creating beautiful cars keeps evoking desire in the hearts of every automobile lover, perhaps none more inspiring than the Spider Veloce series. The prototype modern era Spider was shown at the Turin Motor Show in 1961. However economic challenges in Italy prevailed and it was late 1965 before production Spiders finally emerged from the Pininfarina line; the Giulia-based 105 Pininfarina Spider launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966. Originally named the Duetto, the Series 1 1750 Spider Veloce was famously featured in the 1967 movie The Graduate, driven by Ben, the character played by Dustin Hoffman. By 1970, the body design was altered by squaring the tail known as the kamm tail increasing luggage capacity. Other upgrades saw a slightly different grille, door handles, raked windscreen, top-hinged pedals and improved interior trim. A 2-litre OHC engine with twin Weber carburettors morphed into the 2000 Spider Veloce in 1971 with further enhancements in 1974 and 1975 with the inclusion of two small back seats creating a 2 plus 2 seater. Stainless-steel bumpers were replaced with black, rubber-clad units to comply with rigorous North American crash requirements and of 5,189 built, in 1975, 318 RHD 2000 Spider Veloce (typo 105.27) were made. This example, purchased new from Addison Motors [South Australia] in October 1975 has had just 3 owners. Fully serviced by Alfa Romeo Specialists, Il Bolide Rosso Motors, the car has undergone thorough replacement of parts including reconditioning of the five-speed gearbox, clutch assembly and tail shaft. During the last four years of current ownership, the soft top has been renewed and MOMO wheels and tyres fitted. The car has been professionally repainted in rich red. One of the prettiest Italian Sports Cars ever made, this car just puts a smile on your face and we are advised, drives extremely well with its lively twin cam motor.
