  • Notes:
This painting is sold with Alcaston House Gallery documentation which reads: "This is the story of the same old man, Gudang. These other two are his friends. This bloke here, his name's Unawugu, and this one, his name's Wurrina. Unawugu was the best friend og Gudang, his right hand. I knew this mob here from when I was a boy until was about seventeen - I buried old Gudang, cut his spear, cut his boomerang and cut his knives (he used to carry stone knives) and he's buried. They went out. Unawugu told Gudang and Wurrina "We'd better go and get my father." He'd died at Langaban: a white man from Queensland had shot him there. That's his head there. They cut his spear, cut his boomerang and his stone axe - lellerri, that's the stone axe, and Uarridilla is the boomerang. Ngoimi is the spear and Banban is the woomera. These laniangendi, like mukarr (spirits), they were looking after Unwugu's father. This billabong lumanji; that's where the old man's buried. These two bird, were aksing one another, they were looking for the same old man (Unawugu's father), their name is Karinjii. Thiss Bardbada and the goanna, they told the bird "No, he's buried now, gone, down at the Iumanji billabong. This other billabong and rocks are down at Wamilin, and this bardbada beside the rocks, that's his place. These fellows, I forgot to say their name, its' Manimuburrana (scorpion, one tope and two between the two billabongs). This one here, Guliriguliri, white man's Peewee, he told these Bardbada "Get away from this tucker here" because they were mucking around." As dictated by Willie Gudipi to Beverly Knight 1993
