Lot Description:- 1872 cover from GB to HMAS Basilisk at Sydney 'or Elsewhere', endorsed 'Via brindisi'
but with 6d brown Plate '11' only & largely very fine 'INSUFFY STAMPED/VIA-BRINDISI' h/s, apparently carried in a naval or closed bag, endorsed by the recipient 'recd at/Sydney 25 Nov 1872', minor blemishes. Very attractive. Carried per 'Massilia', departed Southampton 26/9/1872; 'Sumatra', departed Suez 13/10/1872; & 'Behar', departed Galle 28/10/1872, arrived Sydney 25/11/1872.

Notes:[If correctly paid 9d, it would have arrived 21/10/1872. The addressee was paymaster aboard the 'Basilisk', which was on the Australian Station. Port Moresby was named after the ship's master Captain John Moresby]
