• Notes:
  The painting of a view through to the garden is an example of Griffin's post impressionist style. He was appointed war artist to the Australian 8th Army, captured by Japanese at the fall of Singapore, & P.O.W. at Changi for three and half years. The unfinished portrait verso may have been painted before his appointment.
