Lot Description:A very large Chinese White Hardstone Translucent Ruyi Sceptre
Carved with fruiting branches and lingzhi. 'Ruyi' means 'as you wish'. Sometimes described it as a 'sceptre', but it did not symbolise sovereignty, it was a token of good fortune. The Chinese gave a 'ruyi' as a gift due to the auspicious meaning. The Ruyi was also carried in the hope of bringing higher authority and greater power to public servants.
