  Piupiu
  Upper ends of the of the Piupiu tags are tightly plated with tassels to ends. A thin woven waste band hold long multi coloured strands leading to split paired tags on the ends.
  H.630mm, W.800mm.
• Provenance:
  Formally in the collection of Thomas Ryan, 1864-1927. He was well known for his Maori portraits and for his landscapes and seascapes. He was a friend of Charles Goldie, accompanying him on sketching trips and easing his introduction into Maori society. This item was present in his studio and highly likely used to adorn his subjects. Private collection, New Zealand.
