    with remains of attached note "AFRICAN OAK, (Piec)e of (the) stern Post, (shi)p "Enterprise" First (shi)p up River Yarra, 183(5), (seven)ty years under water (Lady) Bay, Warrnambool".
    Height 3cm, width 7cm, depth 7cm
  • Notes:
    Built in Tasmania c1829 the ship was owned by John Pascoe Fawkner for his forthcoming settlement expedition in Port Philip. The Enterprise sank in 1850 at Lady Bay with the loss of many lives. She was salvaged in 1920. The Enterprise was the first ship to sail up the Yarra river to the sight which is now the city of Melbourne.
