    A Rare Japanese Meiji Formal Court Uniform
    Formerly the property of the Prince Ito Hirobumi 1841-1909. The 'daireifuku' black woollen uniform consists of trousers, waistcoat, jacket and hat richly decorated with gold braid scrolling designs and kiri mon badges & trimmings. The hat with ostrich feathers, and with a gilt dress sword in excellent order. Ito Hirobumi was an important member of the Choshu Clan and was deputy leader of the Iwakura Mission to Europe and USA in 1871 and became prime minister in 1888. The uniform was probably made in Osaka as a copy of these made earlier in Saville now London. Additional information available.
