  Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration (VD).
  George V, GRI cypher, hallmarked, London 1918 (Major C H Broad, Res of Officers 1921), engraved naming. According to Stagg 309 of this decoration awarded. With case. [Note: Name of H V Searle, of Nelson College, on base of case, whose Decoration was sold in the same sale and it would appear the cases were switched.] With research notes, including photocopy of portrait.

  Purchased at New Zealand Coin and Medal Co. Ltd, Auckland, Auction 9 June 1983 (lot 76) as from the collection of D O Atkinson.
• Notes:
  Charles Harrington Broad, BA, was Headmaster of Nelson College 1922-1933 where he had been a pupil for nine years and later a master for 21 years. Enrolled Nelson College Volunteer Cadets 1887; appointed a Captain Otago High School Cadets 1897; Transferred to Nelson College 1902 and promoted Acting Major 1905; posted to retired list 1919.
