Lot Description:Royal NZA Veteran bronze [membership] cross.
(Corp G B Purdey), engraved on reverse. Longley records 'Purdy' on the roll for NZ Medal for service as a Corporal with Taranaki Military Settlers. Stowers records him as 'George Burton (Barton) Purdey'. He was born in 1845 at Camberwell, Surrey; joined the Taranaki Military Settlers, No. 6 company at Ballarat, Australia and arrived in NZ on 21 January 1864. Present at the action at White Cliffs 24 August 1865. With research note. -
